The community will come together Friday to remember Buffalo music legend Lance Diamond, and some other Buffalo musical legends will be leading the celebration of his life.

Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac confirmed Wednesday that the band will perform at the tribute, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kleinhans Music Hall.

The Goo Goo Dolls and Diamond had a long-standing friendship that began when Takac met Diamond in 1986 after moving into a house on the West Side, where Diamond lived for the rest of his life.

“We loved him, and he taught us so much,” Takac said.

“Perhaps the lesson he taught us that made the most impact was this – your fans and the people who participate in what you do, they are the ones who matter, and they mean everything.

“He’d tell us that whether you’re performing for three people or 30,000, you give the same, and you give it appreciatively. We’ve never forgotten that. And we saw Lance live it. He loved Buffalo and Western New York.”

Diamond died Sunday in Buffalo General Medical Center as a result of heart complications, family members said. A wake will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kleinhans, with the funeral to follow at noon.

The public is invited to the Friday and Saturday events.
