In 1998, few rock & roll acts made as big a splash as the Goo Goo Dolls, whose contributed of "Iris" to the "City of Angels" soundtrack helped fuel that record's sales as well as that of its own album, "Dizzy Up the Girl."

On Tuesday the band received some more critical attention to accompany its commercial success, as the Goo Goo Dolls received three Grammy nods for "Iris," including "Record of the Year" and "Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal."

But in an interview with the MTV Radio Network, frontman Johnny Rzeznik said he's probably most anxious about the Dolls' third nomination -- for "Song of the Year" -- as the award honors songwriters, and Rzeznik was the one who "Iris."

"It just kind of felt like actually a validation of being a songwriter," Rzeznik said, "which was cool. I've already said that if I win [the Grammy], I'm giving it to Howard Stern. I don't know, if I do win, I don't know, I'll worry about that if I ever win. I am gonna make myself a T-shirt that says, 'I got nominated for three Grammys and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.' So it'll be good and if I lose, then no big deal."

The Goo Goo Dolls are in the midst of a little break from the road, but will use the time off to make a couple of TV appearances, including "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" on January 13 and "Late Night with Conan O' Brien" the next day. The Dolls have also been tapped to open a few dates on the Rolling Stones No Security Tour in late March.
