There's a lot going on in the world of the Goo Goo Dolls. This week, the group launched an intimate acoustic tour called The Otis Midnight Sessions, which features the band performing hits and deep cuts in a "Storytellers" kind of format.  Following that, they'll launch a summer tour with Daughtry. Also this week, the group put out a digital live EP called Warner Sound Sessions.

The EP was recorded a year ago at East West Studios in Los Angeles.  It includes four songs from the Goos' current disc, Magnetic -- including the singles "Rebel Beat" and "Come to Me" -- as well as a version of their hit "Slide."  It's available for download right now.

The Otis Midnight Sessions acoustic tour will result in yet more Goo Goos goodness for fans; singer Johnny Rzeznik tells ABC News Radio that the band is planning to film the entire tour for an upcoming documentary, because it's very special.

"We decided to do it, because I thought it was time to take a show out where our core audience would come and that we could actually reinterpret the songs and have them in a more accessible fashion, rather than having a big rock show," he says, explaining the decision to do the more intimate tour.  The idea is to not only discuss the stories behind the songs, but also the story behind the band itself.

"I just think that the history of this band has never been really told and there's a lot going on there that a lot of people don't know about," Johnny tells ABC News Radio. "People know us for 'Iris' or, you know, 'Slide' and those kind of things, and we sort of keep our mouths shut about a lot of things. But we just felt that it was time to tell our own story, and let people know who we really are, and what this whole sort of adventure that we've been on has really been like."

The tour features the Goos performing tracks they haven't played in years and years, and Johnny admits he literally had to go back and re-learn some of his own songs.  Johnny laughs, "I had to download and copy the lyrics to a few songs because I couldn't remember them. We literally haven't played these songs in 20 years!"

As for why the tour has the unusual name of The Otis Midnight Sessions, there's no deep meaning behind it.

"We decided to call the tour that because we used to have a guy that played harmonica with us and we started calling him Otis Midnight," Johnny explains. "So, I just thought it was funny. I don't know. It just popped into my head and I thought, 'Well, that sounds cool!'"
